Douglas “D.S.”Samuel Short, Sr., age 85, of 1304 Elm Ave., Apt. 17, died at his residence Tuesday, December 27, 2011. A native of Preston, Mr. Short was born April 29, 1926, the son of the late Douglas Samuel Short and Lucile Eva Johnson Short. Mr. Short served in the Navy during World War II and was retired from Sheffield Hardware where he was employed as Vice President and Secretary. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Americus, past member of Civitan, Junior Chamber of Commerce, past member of Jaycees, MB Council Lodge # 13 F & AM, Knight Temple, past president of Sumter Shrine Club and a member of Elks Club.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Phoebe Sumter Hospice, P. O. Box 1434
Americus, Ga. 31709.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Christine Dixon Short of Americus; two sons, Douglas Samuel Short, Jr. of Joshua, TX. and William R. short of Americus; three grandchildren, Christoper Short, Amy Findley and Cody Short; and three great grandchildren.
